When cleaning out my office this past week, Good Willing books and junk galore, I came across this sentimental book that I had forgotten about.
The cover graphics are amazing, symbolizing Beny’s cut through time and his perspective that is off the grid. Beyond the cover, the real star is the extremely well designed and printed content. Packed with emotional photographic essays, poems and short stories that explore Beny’s native Canada. An expert photographer, with an Order of Canada to prove it, Beny became fascinated with the medium and its ability to lead him, in the words of the art critic Herbert Read ”in search of visual metaphors”. To Every Thing There is a Season: Roloff Beny in Canada was the official Canadian gift to visiting heads of state during the nation’s 1967 centennial year.
In the end, this book made the cut and was tucked back onto the shelf. Glad I opened it again.
