A clumsy sponsor laden name for the site formally known simply as the Science World, the bucky inspired dome was part of the original Vancouver Expo 86 site. The building proved to be such a hit that the community lobbied to shift it from its intended use as the Expo Centre to a home for a not-for-profit organization. The building houses the obvious kid friendly exhibits and the cities OMNIMAX theatre, and most recently was transformed into the Russky Dom for the 2010 Olympics. The building has gone through a long history of financial hiccups but remains a critical bit of architecture that anchors the deepest part of False Creek, giving one of the rougher areas (now in transition) a mechanism to remain connected to the city.
