Also known locally as Juniper or Tamarack, Larch is a very familiar species in the maritime province of Nova Scotia. Renowned for it’s unique ‘waterproof’ characteristics (rot resistant and strong), Larch is a very traditional boat making material. These properties also make Larch a great material for other exterior applications, such as decking, fence posts and siding.
Aesthetically, Larch is quite distinctive and it was this unique patterning along with the wood’s legendary durability that inspired these handcrafted cutting boards. As it turns out, Larch wood also has excellent antibacterial properties, making it ideal for this application. The cutting boards themselves are beautifully crafted and while the design details are minimal, they’ve been carefully considered with serious cooks in mind.
From the thoughtful selection of local materials to the care and quality of execution, these cutting boards seem to echo the tenants of the Slow Food Movement. No wonder then that they’ve become must-have gear for many professional chefs and foodies.
