Abu Ghraib Flower Vases

Ceramics as anti-war statement is unique in the practice for sure. We expect beauty from a vase, but these use the pretty decorations of fine ceramics, to deliver images of ugliness. It is this surprise that creates a flip in our minds, we are attracted enough to look at something we would normally turn away from and reject. We are lured into seeing the real consequences of interrogation, and in turn we must make the decision, to act or ignore the truth.
Design, like any art form, is able to pack a serious wallop and is genuinely able to shape opinion. These vases, a mix of the beautiful and the ugly, make us think.
Not bad for a lump of mud.
